Moni was born as Shamsunnahar Smriti, in Shatkhira in Khulna, Bangladesh.
She lost her parents in childhood and grew up in Pirojpur her grandfather’s house.
After Completing Secondary School she has started her career with modeling.
Her first Bangla film, Rana Plaza, based on the Rana Plaza disaster, started shooting in 2013. But this movie wasn’t passed by the censor-board stating that this is a national disaster and people might get wrong notions about it.
On 13 February 2015, She made her acting debut through the film Bhalobasha Shimaheen.
